Ellen DeGeneres has claimed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are attacked for ‘everything they do’.
The 61-year-old talk show host has jumped to the defence of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex after they were branded hypocrites for using four private jets in 11 days – despite also being environmental campaigners.
DeGeneres has leaped to their defence on Twitter , saying that the royal couple were undeserving of the complaints that had been levelled at them.
Ellen said that she had got on well with Harry and Meghan when she had met them with her wife Portia de Rossi during a trip to the UK.
She described the royals as “down-to-earth and compassionate” and has joined Elton John, in whose property they stayed, in dismissing the critics.
Ellen tweeted: “Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation. They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people.”
She then added: “Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”

Singer Elton John had previously issued a lengthy rebuttal of the furore surrounding Meghan and Harry staying at his home in the South of France.
He said that the private jet that had been used was made carbon neutral.
In a series of tweets, Elton wrote: “I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week.
“Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”
The 72-year-old singing legend continued: “After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight.”
Elton continued: “To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™.”
Meanwhile pop star Pink has said Meghan has been subjected to “the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while”.
The Grammy singer Pink has now asked fans to “be a bit kinder”.
She tweeted: “I’m happy to see people coming to the defense of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
“The way people treat her is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while. It’s out of control. Let’s all be a bit kinder, huh?
“Let’s show our children that it’s cool to be kind.”
