An early concept design for Hawkeye is shared by Marvel artist Charlie Wen. Wen was tapped to work on Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, which served as Jeremy Renner’s official debut as MCU’s Clint Barton/Hawkeye. The artist, however, also provided designs for Kenneth Branagh’s Thor where he came up with several looks for Thor’s hammer, the Mjölnir, as well as a wacky option for Loki’s character design.
While Renner also appeared in Thor, it was just for a brief cameo, so it’s safe to say that the aforementioned concept art was intended for his The Avengersintroduction. Since the 2012 film, the character has appeared two more times – Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War – but skipped this year’sAvengers: Infinity War as he was placed under house arrest following his involvement with Team Cap after they refused to sign the Sokovia Accords. People evidently missed the character with Avengers 3 directors Joe and Anthony Russo apparently even getting death threats for their decision to put Clint in the backburner. Luckily, his fans are in for a special treat in next year’s Avengers 4where the hero is expected to reunite with his original Avengers pals.
Shared by Wen on his official Instagram account is the early concept design for Hawkeye. Calling the iteration “Urban Hawkeye,” the art provides a different look for the Avengers’ killer marksman as instead of his usual black leather ensemble, which made him look like a proper agent. Wen’s creation gives him a more vigilante look. Check out the images below:

Urban Hawkeye! I designed this to be different than his superhero version. This would be a costume collaged together from what he already had at home. Interestingly, the concept art exudes the same vibe as Hawkeye’s supposed upcoming ensemble in Avengers 4 where he is tipped to assume the persona of Ronin. Recently, a low-quality concept artwork of Clint’s new suit made its way online. Sadly, given that the image is blurred, it’s difficult to see any smaller details in the costume. But just the overall look of the whole get-up was enough to get fans hyped for his return. It’s still unclear how the character will eventually transform into the more ruthless, masterless samurai, it may, however, have something to do with how he and his family were affected by Thanos’ deadly snap in Infinity War.
Marvel Studios remains tightlipped about Avengers 4, so much so that its title continues to be a mystery. Marketing efforts are currently focused on Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel which will release two months before the Phase 3 capper hits theaters. Given that, the official promotional campaign for the ensemble flick isn’t expected to begin until later in the year. But by then, fans are optimistic that not only would the title have been confirmed, the film’s first trailer would have also been rolled out. In the meantime, fans don’t have any scarcity of new content to dissect with the recent release of Captain Marvel‘s first trailer.
